The video reviews the day to day practices that cause the epidemic of chronic disease. It discusses macronutrients and the implementation of medical nutrition therapy for diabetes prevention and treatment. Learn how to empower patients for weight loss and management of their diabetes.

Diabetes is a carbohydrate intolerance disease. Many things have contributed to the development of chronic disease, including population- and individual-level factors. Insulin resistance develops as people gain weight, and reaches its maximum when diabetes is diagnosed. Many people have diabetes for many years before it is diagnosed.

One method of treating carbohydrate intolerance and elevated blood glucose that comprise diabetes is medical nutrition therapy. Traditionally, medical nutrition therapy, or MNT, involves a meeting between a patient and a registered dietitian during which time they create a personalized meal plan. Now that novel medical foods are available for glucose control, adding a medical food and a more structured meal plan can be a successful tool for diabetes management.
