The Ad Council, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the American Medical Association, and the American Diabetes Association have joined forces on a new initiative to shed light on the prevalence of prediabetes among Americans. Prediabetes is a condition when individuals have elevated blood glucose, but not high enough to be diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. Individuals with prediabetes are on the road to developing diabetes and are at elevated risk for other adverse health outcomes like cardiovascular disease.
Changing behavior from unhealthy lifestyle habits to healthier ones can often reverse prediabetes. Adding physical activity, reducing weight, and eating healthful foods are behaviors that can be beneficial to health. Plus, the sooner patients are identified as having prediabetes or being at risk, the sooner they can embark on their lifestyle changes. Download and print the assessment here for use with your patients.
Recent studies show that 1 in 3 adult Americans has prediabetes. You can make changes to your lifestyle today that could impact your future and lower your risks.
