A 2014 study estimates that one in 68 children are being diagnosed with autism. There are many programs that support these patients but very few treatment options. In Dr. P. Michael Stone’s talk he explores what may be happening in these unique individuals and how doctors can better support this condition. In this broader view Dr. Stone discusses mitochondrial dysfunction, neurologic and gut inflammation, detoxification inadequacy, and much more. He reveals that there are more treatment options and clinical pearls that are not being discussed in conventional medicine and can help you to see patients with autism in a new way.

Presenter Bio
P. Michael Stone, MD, MS, IFMCP is a family physician and director of Ashland’s Comprehensive Family Medicine–Stone Medical, PC. Dr. Stone is a clinician, author, and educator. He has been involved in the nutrition evaluation of patients his entire career, in remote hospitals at the headwaters of the river Kwae, frontier medicine locations, the ICU, or teaching residents and medical students. He teaches workshops and lectures internationally on the nutrition-oriented physical exam to help clinicians glean more during their ABCD of nutrition evaluation.
Dr. Stone received his MD at University of Washington Seattle and his master’s degree in Nutrition at Washington State University. He completed his residency and fellowship in Family Medicine at UCLA Ventura and earned additional certification in Functional Medicine. Dr. Stone is on faculty for the Institute for Functional Medicine and is involved in its nutrition education curriculum and N-sight projects. Current projects include working to develop a nutrition evaluation app, growbabyhealth.com to bring a Functional nutrition approach to transgenerational health during pregnancy, and working with Florida State University to implement a cardiometabolic health coaching and group medical visit model.
